What Are Mitochondria And Why Are They So Important?

Having properly functioning mitochondria is one of the most important things you can address to slow the aging process, increase your energy and metabolism, and improve your immune system and boost brain health.

Mitochondria represent 10% of your body weight and are the drivers of your metabolism. If you know what you’re about to learn, then as you age so will your mitochondria, which will cause your metabolism to decrease.

Mitochondria are the powerhouses of your cells and are found in every part of your body.

Metabolism is the process of breaking down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to yield the energy your body needs for daily function. Most of your energy is produced by mitochondria, which generate most of the cell’s supply of ATP, which is used as a source of energy.

The more healthy mitochondria you have, the more calories your body can burn, and the more your body can delay aging and its associated declines in physical appearance. In other words, having properly functioning mitochondria means better cellular health, faster metabolism and slower cellular aging (far fewer signs of aging, and a reversal of many of the most common signs of aging).

Our mitochondria are under constant assault from our environment and easily damaged. Eating a poor diet, medications, chemicals or toxins from our environment, lack of healthy sleep, stress and infections are some of the main culprits that injure your mitochondria (mitochondria dysfunction). This constant assault and injury to your mitochondria is the reason we poop out as we age.
